Multiple sources have confirmed former Ski Racing contributor, author and renowned instructor Ron LeMaster died on Tuesday after an on-hill accident at Eldora. LeMaster, 72, collided with a snowboarder on the Windmill trail and was pronounced dead at the scene.

LeMaster was known for his countless contributions to the ski industry, authoring multiple books about skiing and ski technique, including ‘The Skier’s Edge’ and ‘Ultimate Skiing.’ He was also a highly accomplished photographer and former contributor to Ski Racing Media.

“I could’ve talked for hours with Ron about the inner workings of ski racing and the physics behind it all. In fact, I did,” said NBC commentator and Ski Racing contributor Steve Porino. “Mostly, I listened, and I will miss that honor dearly.”

Pino also said many of visual and graphic explanations that made their way onto the screen at NBC were the work of “Ron’s fine mind.”

“He was also a kind and generous person willing to drop everything to chat about skiing efficiency, mechanics, and methodology,” said PSIA-AASI Education Director Dave Schuiling. “For me and so many others in the industry, he was an amazing mentor and friend. … Let’s all make some turns for Ron in his memory. Our hearts go out to his family.”

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating accident.

According to BCSO, the snowboarder was interviewed and treated on scene for his injuries from the collision. As of right now, no criminal charges have been filed. The snowboarder has not yet been identified.
