Kriechmayr wins Wengen downhill

Since finishing second at the Lake Louise (CAN) downhill, Vincent Kriechmayr (AUT), had not finished on a downhill podium. Today he turned on the gas and sent it full speed down the Lauberhorn to claim his first downhill victory of the season.

Placing third in yesterday’s downhill, Beat Feuz (SUI) earned another podium in Wengen (SUI). Starting with bib 3, Feuz completed a strong race which secured him second place, 0.34 seconds behind Kriechmayr. It was Feuz’s seventh podium result at the Swiss resort, which includes three victories (2012, 2018, 2020).

Italian, Dominik Paris, came into the Wengen downhill races with a win in Bormio and the Italian raced down the course to claim  third place, 0.10 seconds off Feuz and 0.44 seconds off Kriechmayr.

Marco Odermatt (SUI), missed claiming three podiums in a row in Wengen by 0.02 seconds. Yesterday’s winner, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (NOR), finished in seventh place with a time difference of 0.98 seconds off the leader.

Today’s downhill also marked the retirement of Carlo Janka (SUI), who bid farewell in front of the Swiss crowd.
