After a historic year of dominating the World Cup circuit and breaking decades old records, Mikaela Shiffrin has been nominated for two 2023 ESPY awards: Best Athlete, Women’s Sports and Best Record-Breaking Performance.

Shiffrin has been nominated for ESPYs in previous years, but has yet to claim one.

Few alpine ski racers have won ESPY awards. Notably, former US Ski Team Teammate, Lindsey Vonn, won two ESPY awards during her career, one in 2010 and then another in 2011. Both awards were for Best Female Athlete, which is one of the two awards Shiffrin has been nominated for in 2023.

So, who is she up against?

Best Athlete, Women’s Sports Nominees (ESPN):

  • Mikaela Shiffrin, Ski
  • Sophia Smith, Portland Thorns
  • Iga Świątek, Tennis
  • A’ja Wilson, Las Vegas Aces
