Temperatures have finally begun rising across North America but over a dozen ski areas remain open this weekend and several more have announced plans to stay-open, or re-open, into June. Some plan to continue through July.

California’s Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort is the latest to announce plans to reopen for Memorial Day weekend skiing on May 27th and 28th, with lift passes set at $49, around half the average. The resort’s Chair 5, a two-seater from the base, will be running and the Weigh Station Rail Garden open. The resort says it has had 757 inches of snowfall this season, 230% above average.

It joins Mammoth and The Palisades in California, the latter recently announcing a special four-day Fourth of July festival to celebrate US Independence Day, with EDM legend Paul Oakenfold the headline act.  Both areas plan to stay open at least to July.

Utah’s Snowbird (pictured below) has also announced in the last few days that it will close after the memorial Day weekend but then re-open for weekends from mid-June for as long as they can, with their new tram running with its open-air balcony on the roof.

Also staying open into June is Colorado’s Arapahoe Basin and Oregon’s Timberline with the Beartooth Basin summer ski area on the Montana/Wyoming border also expecting to open for its 2023 run next weekend.  So at least six US areas plan to open in June so far.

A number of others, including Vermont’s Killington (pictured top and below) and Colorado’s Winter Park have not yet announced season end dates.

However the last three ski areas open in Canada will close after Monday and half-a-dozen other US ski areas that are still open will close this weekend (including Breckenridge and Solitude) or next.
