No need to flush ice down your toilet or place a spoon under your pillow. Snow day prayers were bountifully answered this season, favoring the majority of Utah resorts. This historic winter brought more flurries than skiers knew what to do with. In response, resorts are delaying their closing dates so you can get your fix well into June. And before all the snow melts, strap on a pair of planks and take a deep dive with FREESKIER into the 22/23 record-breaking snow totals.

Alta received a historic 878 inches and counting, beating the last cataloged record of 748 inches set in the 1981-82 season. March alone brought in 229 inches of snow, which is nearly triple the amount received in March of 2022. Safe to say Alta locals coasted fresh powder all season, thanks to hardworking employees tirelessly digging out lifts and resort spaces.

In March, Brighton beat its all-time record with 778 inches of snow. On average, Utah resorts receive 500 inches of pow per year. Hitting nearly 800 feet before April is the earliest in the season that’s occurred since 1943, right around when skiing become popular in the US. On April Fools Day, Brighton was not joking when they cleared the 800 mark, stating that they were in “uncharted waters” on an Instagram post.

791 inches and counting places Solitude amongst the many Utah resorts to beat their all-time record. To celebrate the snowiest winter on record, Solitude plans to make it their longest season ever with lifts spinning until May 21.

Snowbird’s been smashing records and slashing powder whilst eclipsing a season total of 800 inches, reported the first week of April. As a result, resort teams have become masters in avalanche mitigation work, making certain skiers are safe to ride during heavy winter storms. Highway closures and difficulty digging out lifts were a major struggle, but as things have calmed down, Snowbird boasts staying open through at least Memorial Day.

Lifties at Palisades Tahoe have spent the greater part of the season (you guessed it) shoveling snow. The California resort hit over 700 inches, taking the title of Tahoe’s second snowiest winter on record. That brings the resort to 162% of its average season snowfall. Join the self-proclaimed ‘spring skiing capital’ through July 4th for a patriotic closing party.
