Super-G Races Canceled at NorAm Finals, Mollin and Alexander Crowned Super-G Titles

The NorAm Finals at Panorama Resort in British Columbia have endured challenging weather and unfavorable snow conditions, which has canceled several races.

The event had a three-day window in the program, from April 5th to 7th, to attempt to complete at least one super-G race. However, the unfavorable conditions did not allow that to happen. The course crews and volunteers worked tirelessly, but the track was deemed unraceable.

The cancellations meant that the four athletes who were in the top 2 positions for men and women of the NorAm Cup standings for super-G would get crowned the NorAm Cup super-G titles.

Women’s Top-2 in Super-G NorAm Cup Standings

Stifel US Ski Team athlete Allison Mollin won her second NorAm Cup discipline title of the week, clinching the super-G title with 330 points. Several days prior, she also secured the downhill NorAm Cup title and is now in good standing to win the Overall Cup.

She stated on social media, “An anticlimactic end to the speed season with so many cancellations, but stoked to walk away with TWO NorAm titles.”

At the beginning of the NorAm Finals, Mollin stated, “What gave me the most confidence coming into NorAm finals was some time training and freeskiing at home followed by a strong Super-G result at US nationals.”

At the US Alpine Championships, the 19-year-old achieved 2nd place in super-G at US Nationals in Sun Valley, Idaho.

With the very successful season, she is proud of what she has accomplished and is looking forward to more World Cup starts in 2024/25.

She also stated on social media, “Really excited for what next season is going to bring on the World Cup, but for now looking forward to the sun (sun emoji and sunglass emoji).”

Tatum Grosdidier, also representing the Stifel US Ski Team, achieved the 2nd-place position in the NorAm Cup standings. The Alpine D team athlete, originally from Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, had two primary goals coming into the season. She was striving to win a NorAm race and achieve a medal at the US Alpine Championships.

She was able to attain both goals that she set for herself. At the US Alpine Championships, she was awarded 3rd place in the super-G and won the NorAm super-G at Whiteface, New York, in February.

In the 2025 season, Grosdidier will debut on the World Cup circuit.

Men’s Top-2 in Super-G NorAm Cup Standings

Alpine Canada Alpin athlete Kyle Alexander achieved his second NorAm Cup title of the week with 225 points. Before the cancellation of this race, the men’s NorAm cup standings for the discipline were tight, with four other athletes within 45 points from him. Nevertheless, he was able to secure the super-G title.

The former Whistler Mountain Ski Club athlete has participated in 24 World Cup events and achieved his first victory this season in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen super-G race. With his two NorAm Cup titles, he has secured his starting position for the 2024/25 World Cup speed season.

Since Alexander’s first NorAm podium in Lake Louise in 2019, he has achieved 13 podium finishes on the NorAm circuit.

Furthermore, Alexander remains busy in tech disciplines by skiing for the University of Vermont. This season on the University circuit, the athlete achieved one podium in giant slalom and two top-10 finishes.

He currently sits in the 3rd-place position for the overall NorAm Cup title behind Simon Fournier (CAN) and Cooper Puckett (USA).

Trailing by 16 points in the NorAm super-G Cup standings, Jack Smith of the Stifel US Ski Team secured second and his starting position on the 2025 World Cup Circuit.

The 22-year-old athlete unfortunately had a tough go at the beginning of the NorAm finals, unable to finish the downhill race. However, he still ended 6th in the NorAm Cup downhill standings and currently sits 6th in the overall standings.

Smith’s inaugural race in the World Cup was scheduled for the Birds of Prey course in December. However, due to a series of cancellations, the men’s speed season was severely affected. Eventually, he debuted on the World Cup stage during the super-G event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

After his inaugural super-G, he raced two events in Kvitfjell. However, he will aim to score points and move up on the circuit with his secured start next winter.
