Norway’s Johann Andre Forfang won the second FIS Ski Jumping World Cup of the weekend at the Holmenkollen in Oslo on Sunday. Forfang came out on top ahead of Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi and Stefan Kraft from Austria. Kraft leads the overall RAW AIR rankings after 6 of a total of 16 rounds. The best German athlete was Andreas Wellinger in 8th place.
“This is incredible, a dream has come true today, I’m incredibly happy about this success. I didn’t expect it, but I had already expected a good result after the first two days here in Oslo went really well for me. Now I’m really looking forward to the two competitions in Trondheim,” explained Forfang, for whom it was his second victory this winter and the fifth of his career.
With his victory on the day, Forfang is now also the closest pursuer of leader Stefan Kraft in the overall RAW AIR ranking.
Forfang is in second place with 762.2 points behind Stefan Kraft (773.5 points). Jan Hoerl follows in third place with 748.2 points.
Kraft had already taken the lead from Daniel Huber in the first round after Huber had to land after 111 meters and did not reach the final in 39th place.
Stefan Kraft continued to perform confidently, finishing third in the final ranking and extending his RAW AIR lead: “It was less windy than yesterday, but the wind conditions were difficult again. But it was still a great competition, I love this hill and I’m very happy with the competition and the result today”.
Kraft now heads to Trondheim as the leader in the RAW AIR (11.3 points ahead of Forfang) and as the leader in the overall World Cup (1738 points, 276 points ahead of Kobayashi).
Ryoyu Kobayashi, for his part, finished in second place for the 10th time this season!
Domen Prevc dropped back to a good fourth place overall after leading at half-time, Robert Johansson achieved his best result of the season with 5th place.
The Finn Niko Kytosaho achieved his best career result in 7th place. Kytosaho is marching towards the top of the world with big steps – finally a Finn with top results again. Kytosaho is in 12th place in the overall RAW AIR ranking.
Andreas Wellinger finished directly behind the Finn in 8th place: “The conditions weren’t easy either, but that’s what we know from the Holmenkollen. There is more in it than I was able to show here this weekend, we will attack again on Tuesday in Trondheim,” Wellinger said after the mixed Oslo weekend.
The crowd favorite Noriaki Kasai had bad luck and good luck on Sunday at Holmenkollen. First of all, the wind forced the 51-year-old to land after 75 meters during his qualification jump, meaning that the RAW AIR was actually already over for Kasai. But then the disqualification of Switzerland’s Remo Imhof meant that Kasai qualified in 50th place for Trondheim and Vikersund.
For the ski jumpers, the travel day to Trondheim is on the program tomorrow. On Tuesday and Wednesday there will be two competitions (1 x normal hill and 1 x large hill) on the new facility where the Nordic World Ski Championships will be held next winter.
