Who is racing and when and how can you watch the Sunday Garmisch-Partenkirchen World Cup men’s super-G on January 28th?

The anticipation for Sunday’s Garmisch-Partenkirchen men’s World Cup super-G on the Kandahar race slope is palpable. With all four super-Gs this season yielding different winners, the discipline has been unpredictable.

Today’s race on the same slope brought significant surprises. Marco Odermatt of Switzerland, leading the season’s super-G standings, missed the podium for the first time in 12 races, finishing fourth.

French skier Nils Allegre clinched his first career World Cup podium, with Italy’s Guglielmo Bosca in second and Switzerland’s Loic Meillard in third. It was also Bosca’s first World Cup podium. Both Allegre and Bosca are thirty-year-old veterans.

Battle for season’s super-G supremacy.

The battle for the season’s title between Austria’s Vincent Kriechmayr and Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt intensifies as the super-G season nears its end. While it remains a long shot, Kriechmayr emerges as the sole contender with a realistic chance of overtaking Odermatt in the final three races, including the finals.

As the tension mounts, spectators can anticipate an exhilarating showdown between these two formidable athletes vying for supremacy in the super-G discipline.

Currently, the Swiss men are dominating the super-G Nations Cup standings with a 167-point advantage over Austria. Also, Switzerland has four racers ranked among the top ten. France has the second most with two.

The outcome of tomorrow’s race hinges on a crucial factor: the overnight temperatures. If they drop below freezing, the characteristics of the competition on the Kandahar race slope will undergo a significant change. Consequently, with the hill potentially locking up, speeds could soar, presenting a stark contrast to the conditions experienced today. Such a shift will demand a different set of skills and strategies from the racers, promising a thrilling spectacle as they adapt to the altered environment and strive for victory on the icy terrain.

However, the race also saw some disappointments. Canadian James Crawford, despite being the reigning World Champion, finished 25th, dropping out of the top 10 for the first time this season.

On a brighter note, Stifel US Ski Team’s Ryan Cochran-Siegle, after a season of struggle, secured tenth place, boosting his rank to 20th in the season’s super-G standings.

Jared Goldberg, currently ranked 24th, is on the cusp of qualifying for the top 25 in the super-G standings. As a member of the Stifel US Ski Team, Goldberg is primed to defend his position and secure his spot in the highly anticipated World Cup Finals.

With only two regular-season super-G races left, the battle for the top 25 spots intensifies, with invitations to the World Cup Finals at stake. North America witnessed a surge in skiers scoring World Cup super-G points, increasing from eight to twelve.

While some newcomers like River Radamus USA, independent Wiley Maple USA and Canadian brothers Riley and Brodie Seger impressed, they face an uphill battle to qualify for the finals.

Meanwhile, Bryce Bennett, with two downhill podiums this season, sits closest to the top 25, needing a strong performance to secure a spot.

As anticipation builds for tomorrow’s race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, weather forecasts suggest freezing temperatures, promising a challenging course and potentially altering the dynamics of the competition.
