Arapahoe Basin Opens New Summit Access Trail

Earlier today, September 14th, Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, shared an image of “Up At Arapahoe,” a new summer access trail on the resort’s piste.
Here’s the map of the new trail.
From the Facebook post:
“Up At Arapahoe: No longer called “Trail 5”, the first segment of our newest summer trail, “Up At Arapahoe” is open. The trail is for two-way hiking and uphill biking. The route is about .6 miles and almost 300 vertical feet. Learning from our early trail building, the climbing on “Up At Arapahoe” is easier than on the “Argentine North Fork Trail.” The layout is beautiful and, most importantly, it gets people off the summer road.”
Full disclosure: “Up At Arapahoe” is a work in progress. A third of the trail, which will eventually connect the Black Mountain Lodge to the summit, is complete and will be open to the public through the end of Arapahoe Basin’s summer season on September 24th. The resort plans to complete “Up At Arapahoe” next summer.
Mountain bikers — you get it. The implementation of this trail is a godsend. Before the construction of “Up At Arapahoe,” bikers hoping to score some downhill laps had to grind up the summer road, a portion of Arapahoe Basin’s piste known for being brutal. Not in a fun way. People walking their bikes on this road was a common sight.
“Up At Arapahoe’s” first phase amends a portion of this unpleasant part of mountain biking at Arapahoe Basin. “The first switchbacks of Up At Arapahoe now available for use already have bikers singing praises, offering a better experience at a lower grade,” said Shayna Silverman, a representative for Arapahoe Basin. “With plans to have the trail fully completed by next summer, bikers can say goodbye to that nasty road climb.”
