Austria wins Mixed Team Gold

Austria is the winner of the Juniors Mixed Team event in Whistler (CAN).
The last Nordic Combined competition of the 2023 FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships started out with the Ski Jumping part of the Mixed Team event.
Germany (Benedikt Graebert, Cindy Haasch, Nathalie Armbruster and Tristan Sommerfeldt) took the lead with a total of 443.9 points, only 1 second ahead of Austria (Kilian Guetl, Lisa Hirner, Annalena Slamik, Paul Walcher) with 443.1 points on rank 2.
Italys Manuel Senoner, Greta Pinzani, Annika Sieff and Iacopo Bortolas collected 400.8 points, placed third and went into the race 43 seconds behind the leaders.
In the following cross-country race Germany and Austria defended their lead against their pursuers through all exchanges, so it came down to an exisiting finish sprint between Sommerfeldt and Walcher, who entered the home stretch together.
In the end, Walcher prevailed against the German, securing Austrias first Nordic Combined Gold medal at the 2023 JWSC, only 1.1 seconds ahead.
While Germany claimed silver, Italy won the bronze medal 1:00.8 minutes behind.
