Out Of Control Skier Plows Into On-Mountain Restaurant Seating

Ski videos, for better or worse, don’t make my jaw drop very often. It’s the curse of constantly writing about and watching skiing — eventually, you get a bit desensitized to it all.
But this video, this video right here, gobsmacked me. It’s got it all. Excitement, carnage (I use that superlatively, no one was actually hurt, to my knowledge), and the always important element of surprise. I won’t spoil it for you any further. Watch below.
Kid turned himself into a human cruise missile.
Imagine you’re hanging out at the base area of your local resort, and then “Wamo!” an out-of-control 12-year-old is flying towards you at Mach speeds.
While the crash probably wasn’t pleasant for the seated skier who got hit, I bet it was much worse for the kid. He probably had time to realize that he was about to be involved in a high-speed collision.
And the longer you know you’re about to crash, the worse said crash usually is. It adds an additional layer of psychic damage that those “How the heck did that happen?” crashes that are over before you know what happened don’t have.
I grew up skiing, so the years of my life when I could lose complete control of myself on the hill while riding a casual groomer have faded from my memory. The only times I’ve recently lost it involved poor decision-making, bulletproof ice, and huge moguls. Those moments sucked.
But I can’t relate to the sensation of flying down the mountain toward the base area, knowing I don’t have the skills and edge control to stop.
What goes through your head when something like that’s happening?
Was the out-of-control kid resigned? Scared? Or was he trying to settle a personal vendetta by colliding with the deck chairs in the base area?
Maybe he was trying to indicate to the resort that they shouldn’t have increased pass prices. What a way to send a message that would be.
Unfortunately, we’ll never know for sure.
Regardless, what a video.
