Big Snowfall Boost for Aussie Ski Season

Australian ski areas are celebrating a big snowfall which has so far deposited about a foot of snow on the country’s ski slopes, with the snow still falling.
The snow has arrived after a mild start to June forced some of the country’s ski areas, including Thredbo, pictured top, to delay planned slope openings last weekend.
Perisher however, pictured below, managed to open limited terrain but has now expanded what it has open, turning on its V8 eight-seat chairlift to access newly opened runs.
“We were impressed to see such keen Perisher skiers and snowboarders hike to the top of Front Valley to get their first runs of the season, but now we’re giving them a little more help to get to the top thanks to our eight-seater chairlift,” said Maddi Ventura, Perisher’s Marketing Manager, adding,
“Our incredible snowmaking team have been firing the snowguns at every opportunity to add to the natural snowfall we’ve been receiving over the past day. We thank all our team for their hard work in getting the resort ready, as well as our guests who have been spurring us on all week showing us just how much fun a day at the snow can be.”
The snowfall is still coming down and is about double what was forecast, the outlook for the coming weeks is also looking promising with more cold weather and snow showers expected.
Falls Creek, Thredbo and Mt Hotham are yet to open ski runs with Selwyn Reskrt also waiting to open, in its case for the first time since winter 2019 having been closed for rebuilding after bush fires destroyed its buildings and lifts at the start of 2020.
