Helicopter Removes Final Towers From Iconic Chairlift

As we move towards summer, ski areas throughout North America are gaining momentum on lift improvement projects.
This video, shot at Sun Valley, Idaho, shows helicopters removing the final towers of the to-be-updated iconic Challenger Lift.
The Challenger Lift is being upgraded to a high-speed six-seater with a new mid-mountain off-load station. Sun Valley projects that this upgraded lift will be 35% faster than its previous, now-removed iteration.
The Challenger lift replacement is part of a larger endeavor to improve Sun Valley’s Warm Springs base area, called the Warm Springs Enhancement Project.
This project includes the removal of the Greyhawk four-seater lift. The new Challenger lift’s mid-station will be placed at Greyhawk’s previous top location, ensuring Greyhawk’s terrain offerings remain accessible.
Another component of the Warm Springs Enhancement Project is the reintroduction of the four-seater Flying Squirrel lift. The original, rarely-used Flying Squirrel life was lost in a 2014 fire.
Sun Valley plans to open the new Challenger and Flying Squirrel lifts during the 2023-2024 winter season.
