Snowboarder Seemingly Disappears Into Thin Air

Hear ye! Hear ye! Gather around to hear the tale of the mysterious disappearing snowboarder. One moment he was happily riding powder, and the next… gone without a trace. Could a sorcerer’s dark magic have wrought this bone-chilling occurrence?
Jokes aside, this clip from Markus Rustad does involve a snowboarder briefly vanishing into a cloud of snow after a perfectly executed airplane turn. While it sadly doesn’t include any evil wizards, it is an immensely satisfying watch.
This video right here. This is the one that made me question my commitment to skiing.
Don’t worry. I’m not going to come out and openly bag on skiing. I’ve been doing it for 22 years, give or take, and I don’t plan on giving up anytime soon. And because no one’s paying me to ski (a guy can dream), that years-long commitment stems from the simple fact that I really love sliding down snow on two boards.
But now and then, I’ll watch a video like this and think: “Man. Snowboarding in powder looks a lot more fun than skiing in powder.” While you could try to mimic the maneuver shown here on skis, it wouldn’t be the same; snowboards can do some things that skis can’t, particularly in deep snow.
Then I remember watching snowboarders struggling on cat tracks and clunky split boards that take three times longer to transition than touring skis. And, suddenly, my desire to pick up snowboarding, like the snowboarder in this video, vanishes.
