Bakuriani 2023 Snowboard Cross World Championships ready to start
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The highlight of the 2022/23 FIS Snowboard Cross season the Bakuriani 2023 FIS Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships are going down from 19 February until 05 March 2023. After we saw some exciting racing at the other disciplines, it’s finally time for the snowbaord cross athletes to fight for the medals from 01 – 04 March 2023 in the Lesser Caucasus Mountains in Bakuriani, Georgia.

Due to the bad weather forecast, the single event already goes down on 01 March 2023. The competition will start at 10:30 LOC / 07:30 CET with the pre-heats. The finals will go down at 13:00 LOC / 10:00 CET.

The mixed Snowboard Cross team event will take place on 04 March at 14:30 LOC / 11:30 CET for third time in Snowboard Cross World Championships history. One team exists of one woman and one man of the same nation. The format is the same knock-out format as for the single event. The only difference is that once the first team-competitors are in the finish, the second team competitors will start with time delay registered by the first team competitors. A maximum “penalty time” applies in the case that the first competitor “Did Not Finish” (DNF) the course or the competitor’s time difference from the winner in the finish exceeds the maximum time delay. Men go first, then women.

Whom to watch

Women:
Chloe Trespeuch (FRA) stood on the podium four times this season. With a victory in Cervina and a second and two third places, she is the current world cup leader. The Olympic Winter Games silver medallist is the most constant rider on the women’s side this season so far.

Charlotte Bankes (GBR) our reigning World Champion from 2021. The Great Britain athlete won the last race here in Bakuriani in 2021 and showed some really good riding this season. She not only won the last race before the World Champs in Cortina d’Ampezzo but also earned a third place and a victory in Cervinia. She is currently second in the overall world cup standing list.

Josie Baff (AUS) the young Australian sitting in third overall position. Baff won her first ever world cup at the opening race in Les Deux Alpes (FRA) and confirmed her good performance from France at the world cup in Cervinia with a second place.

Eva Adamczykova (CZE) won the first of the two test races here in Bakuriani in 2021. Her best results this season have been a fourth and a fifth place in Cervinia.

Men:
Martin Noerl (GER) overall World Cup winner from 2022 is also leading the overall world cup standing list. The German rider started with a victory in Les Deux Alpes (FRA) followed by a third and a second place in Cervinia (ITA). A crash in the first heat in Cortina d’Ampezzo stopped him from another excellent result. This makes him the most consistent rider on men’s side so far.

Loan Bozzolo (FRA) is in second overall position. The young French rider not only won his first world cup race in Cervinia, but it was also his first world cup podium of his career. This victory for sure gives him some extra motivation for the World Championships.

Alessandro Haemmerle (AUT) Beijing 2022 Olympic champion is now back after he missed the last race because of a training crash. Also Haemmerle stood on top of the podium only once this season, he will be a candidate for medals in this World Championships.

Omar Visitin (ITA) won the last race here in Bakuriani in 2021 and stood on the podium once this season. He is in third position in the overall ranking at the moment.

Eliot Grandin (CAN) the Beijing 2022 Olympic silver medallist and third of the last World Championships 2021 also won the first test event here in 2021. His best result this season was a third place at the first world cup in Les Deux Alpes (FRA) in December.

Reigning World Champions team event: Australia (Belle Brockhoff and Jarryd Hughes)

So, let’s see if Bankes and Eguibar can defend their title or if we will have new World Champions 2023. Fingers crossed, that the weather develops in the right direction, and we will see some exciting and good racing these days in Bakuriani, Georgia.

Qualification can be followed live via FIS App or on our website via live timing.
