Ito and Pinkelnig celebrate in Lahti

Japan’s Yuki Ito won the last ski jumping World Cup of the season in Lahti (FIN). The Japanese won on the HS 130 meter hill in Lahti just ahead of Anna Odine Stroem from Norway and Katharina Althaus from Germany. Overall World Cup winner Eva Pinkelnig from Austria finished fourth.

Despite continuous rain there were only smiling faces after the competition in Salpausselkรค stadium in Lahti. First of all Yuki Ito was happy about her second victory of the season. Ito had already won in Willingen in February and ended a six-year drought with her success. For Ito it was the 7th World Cup victory.ย
Anna Odine Strame was happy about her second place which would have nearly brought her the third place in the overall World Cup. Stroem was only 3 points behind the third-placed Slovenian Ema Klinec, who won the RAW AIR last weekend in Norway with a new world record in women’s ski flying (226 meters).
Katharina Althaus from Germany finished third in the day’s ranking in Lahti and after the day’s victory ceremony she was also able to celebrate second place in the overall World Cup ranking.
Althaus delivered an outstanding season with the second overall place and the three World Championship titles in Planica.
The big crystal globe for the overall World Cup victory after fourth place in the daily standings went to Austria’s Eva Pinkelnig. The 34-year-old, who only started ski jumping at the age of 24, crowned her career by winning the overall World Cup. “I am very happy. In the summer I was still so far away, podiums were a mission impossible. Now it has become 18 podiums this winter, six victories, that’s incredible!” said Pinkelnig.

Resignation of Rodlauer
ร–SV head coach Harry Rodlauer caused a surprise after the competition with his resignation: “I congratulate Eva and all my athletes for what they have achieved this year. It was really extraordinary, I’m really proud of this team,” the 56-year-old Rodauer declared, concluding, “Thank you for everything, for me this is it now.” Under Rodlauer’s leadership, the ร–SV team also won the Nations Cup.
Who will succeed Rodlauer at the ร–SV has not yet been decided.ย
