Shiffrin returns to Spindleruv Mlyn the site of her first World Cups

Who is racing, when and how to watch the Spindleruv Mlyn slalom

Tomorrow Mikaela Shiffrin will attempt to win her 85th career World Cup, her 12th race of the season and her season’s fifth slalom. The woman is on fire. When an athlete is producing the quality of skiing she is, it looks easy; however, it is anything but.

Tomorrow’s Spindleruv Mlyn race will be the first time we will see the women on slalom skis since the January 10th Flachau night slalom. Shiffrin is approaching the all-time World Cup win record achieved in 1989 by Ingemar Stenmark. With 84 World Cup wins under her belt, she could match his 86 victories by winning both races in Spindleruv Mlyn. Notably, women’s slalom has provided some of the most compelling competitions of the season. However, if Shiffrin isn’t on her game, there are plenty of athletes, including her Stifel US Alpine Teammate, Paula Moltzan, prepared to earn a victory.

Uniquely, Spindleruv Mlyn is the 2011 site of Shiffrin’s first career World Cups races. In her last few days as a fifteen-year-old, she raced giant slalom and slalom before her 16th birthday.

There are ten North Americans entered to race the Spindleruv Mlyn slalom on January 28th, seven from the USA and three from Canada.
