Back-to-back races in Cervinia (ITA)

After a successful season start in Les Deux Alpes (FRA) last week, the snowboard cross circuit moved on to one of our classic races to Cervinia, Italy. From 15 -17 December Cervinia, which is located in Valle d’Aosta underneath the Italian side of the world-famous Matterhorn, will host back-to-back FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup races.

Recap Les Deux Alpes

What a start into the new season at one of our new venues in Les Deux Alpes. After some amazing training and qualification days, we had to postpone the race by one day due to bad weather. Also, the weather wasn`t 100 percent on our side, we saw some good racing by our athletes. On the women’s side, it was the young Australian Josie Baff who asserted herself against the experienced Chloe Trespeuch, the 16-year-old Lea Casta and the Swiss Aline Albrecht and so won the first world cup of her career. On the men’s side, Martin Noerl, the reigning overall SBX World Cup winner 2021/22, confirmed his strength by winning the first world cup of the season, followed by Omar Visitin and Eliot Grondin.

Cervinia ready to hold back-to-back races

For the sixth time in a row, Cervinia holds one of the FIS Snowboard Cross World Cups before Christmas. Thanks to the OC, FISI and FIS, instead of one planned race, Cervinia now will host a second race on Saturday, 17 December to compensate the cancelled race in Montafon (AUT). After two years with less snow and a shorter course we are now back to the well know challenging and long course.

Let’s see if Michela Moioli can reveal the extra energy at her home soil race and win for the third time in a row on this course. In total the Italian rider already stood on the podium in Cervinia for four times and is the most successful snowboard cross athlete on this course, among man and women.

Cervinia title defenders from December 2021: Michela Moioli (ITA) and Jakob Dusek (AUT).

Qualifications for the race on Friday are scheduled for Thursday, 15 December at 11:00 CET for men and at 14:30 CET for women. The pre-heats for our race on Saturday, 17 December are scheduled for 9:30 CET. Both races can be followed on our website or via our FIS App.

Finals are slated to go down on 16 December at 10:30 CET and on 17 December at 11:00 CET.
