Kubacki wins qualification in Partenkirchen
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Dawid Kubacki won the qualification for the New Year’s Jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Saturday. The Pole was ahead of the two Slovenians Anze Lanisek and Timi Zajc. Tour leader Halvor Egner Granerud lost almost 10 points to Kubacki in 6th place.

After the qualification in Partenkirchen the tour lead is within reach again for Dawid Kubacki. Kubacki took almost 10 points from the Norwegian Granerud in the qualification jump on Saturday. So it is clear that Kubacki with his current gap of 13.4 points after the opening jump in Oberstdorf has all chances to catch up Granerud already in the competition on Sunday. So it remains absolutely exciting in the overall ranking of the 71st Four-Hills-Tournament.

Behind the top-3 of the qualification, Piotr Zyla presented himself enormously strong again in fourth place. Zyla could be the laughing third in the fight between the superstars Granerund and Kubacki. Manuel Fettner came in 5th, Halvor Egner Granerud was 6th.
Kamil Stoch completed a very strong team result for the Poles in 7th place, Daniel Tschofenig was the best Austrian in 8th place, directly behind the two strong German youngsters Phillip Raimund and Constantin Schmid. Markus Eisenbichler and Stephan Leyhe shared a good 14th place.
“The jump went very well for me, despite the tail wind. But these conditions suit me quite well”, Phillip Raimund said happily after his top result.
Gregor Deschwanden, the only Swiss in the field, finished 17th. Among the Finns, only youngster Vilho Palosaari was able to meet expectations with 20th place. Antti Aalto (47th) qualified for the competition, Niko Kytosaho as 53rd did not reach the competition as well as Eeto Nousiainen who was disqualified (too big suit). From the German national group David Siegel and Finn Braun were eliminated, Simon Spiewok was disqualified.

The New Year’s Jumping starts on Sunday at 2 p.m.
