We’ve been keeping you up to date on the latest snowfall with our Friday Freshies posts, but now that most resorts in North America are open and the season is in full swing, we wanted to know which resorts have accumulated the most snow to date.

What is base depth?

In the skiing world, a base depth refers to the settled depth of snow on the mountain, usually reported both at the base as well as the summit to compare based on elevation. As the base depth grows throughout the season, more terrain opens up and there are more opportunities to shred. Having a deeper base depth also encourages new snow to stick around and last longer, which translates to more pow days for all.

Here is our roundup of the top 11 resorts in North America who currently have the deepest base depths (as of the time of posting on 12/8/22).

11. Crystal Mountain, Washington: 47″.
10. Park City, Utah: 48”
9. Mt. Hood Meadows, Oregon: 50-70”.
8. Mt. Baker, Washington: 52-69”.
7. Brighton Resort, Utah: 54″.
6. Timberline Lodge, Utah: 56”.
5. Mammoth Mountain, California: 57-105”.
4. Solitude Mountain, Utah: 57”.
3. Snowbird, Utah: 62”.
2. Grand Targhee Resort, Wyoming: 64”.
1. Alta Ski Area, Utah: 68”.

Wrapping things up, we have some honorable mentions for Pow days in Colorado this week. In the last 48 hours, three different resorts have reported some impressive snowfall!

Pow Day Mentions

Aspen Snowmass had 14”

Breckenridge had 12”

And Crested Butte had 10”
