Halvor Egner Granerud won the second competition of the 71st Four-Hills-Tournament in Garmisch-Partenkirchen after his victory at the opening competition in Oberstdorf. Granerud won on the HS 142 metres hill in Partenkirchen with the highest score in both rounds against Anze Lanisek (SLO) and Dawid Kubacki (POL).

“That was really a great competition today. Anze, Dawid and I jumped at a very high level. The competition today showed how great ski jumping is. My jump in the final was extremely good from my point of view, I still have to listen to the coaches’ feedback, but I think it was really good. At the moment it’s just going well for me. We’ll see how it goes in Innsbruck,” said the ski jumper of the moment.
After his second success in the second jumping of the 71st Four-Hills-Tournament Granerud now clearly leads the overall tour ranking with 26.8 points ahead of Dawid Kubacki and 40.1 points ahead of Piotr Zyla.

Four Hills Tour overall ranking

“I made mistakes today, in the first jump I was too late, the second jump was not optimal either. On the one hand it is good to make it to the podium despite mistakes, on the other hand I am annoyed about the mistakes. But of course I am happy with my place on the podium. Now it’s half-time, we’ll settle the score in Bischofshofen, until then everything is still possible”, said Kubacki, who is still leading in the overall World Cup ahead of Anze Lanisek from Slovenia, who came second today.

Overall World Cup ranking

Lanisek said: “The competition today was great. I am happy that the jury allowed such long jumps today, I hope it will continue like this. In Oberstdorf I still had some problems, fortunately today it went better. I have my family and friends here and I am very grateful to all of them, without them I wouldn’t be here today. I have to remind myself sometimes that I have nothing to lose, I want to jump relaxed and have fun and I am really looking forward to Innsbruck now. This is a special place for me, I always love coming to Innsbruck”.

With Manuel Fettner (4th), Jan Hörl (5th), Daniel Tschofenig (7th) and Michael Hatyböck (10th) four Austrians reached the top-10, although Stefan Kraft, who is actually the strongest Austrian, only finished 18th. Kraft had a crosswind in his first attempt and had to land much earlier than planned.

With Piotr Żyła and Kamil Stoch in 6th and 9th place, the Poles also achieved a very strong team result.

Andreas Wellinger and Karl Geiger came in 8th and 11th. Actually a decent result, even if a top place was missing and there will be no German Tour victory this winter, that is clear after two of four stations.
Geiger is the best DSV eagle in fifth place in the overall Tour ranking, the gap to leader Granerud is already 57.6 points.

The 71st Four-Hills-Tournament continues on Tuesday with training and qualification, followed by the third competition on Wednesday at the Bergisel in Innsbruck.
