The U.S. Ski Team will begin the competition season without one of their emerging World Cup athletes. Officially the US Ski Team says, “While training in Portillo, Alix sustained an ankle injury. She is in good spirits and we will be working with her to get her back to snow.” This is the extent of their release; the team does its best to respect athletes’ privacy, and medical issues are some of the most private.

On the other hand, it is no secret that the faster you go, when things go wrong, the more likely you are to experience an injury. We have been unable to confirm this situation but SRM has confirmed that Wilkinson will miss a portion of the 2022-23 competition season.

Last season Wilkinson scored her first World Cup points in January in Cortina d’Ampezzo. A week later, she followed that performance with another scoring finish in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Undoubtedly, Wilkinson was starting to find her way on the FIS World Cup and establishing herself on the world stage. The woman, however, is talented, strong and determined. Expect to see her come back in good condition and then quickly find her rhythm once she returns to snow.

Be sure to follow injured athletes so they know they are not forgotten and the community supports them through recovery.
