Jens Luraas Oftebro won today’s Summer Grand Prix competition in Tschagguns (AUT).

55 athletes from 11 nations were on start in rainy conditions on the HS108 in the Montafon Nordic Ski Center this afternoon.
Martin Fritz took the lead after Ski Jumping with a jump on 103.5 meters (124.4 pts), which was also the furthest distance of the day. Therefore, the Austrian was the first one who started into the 10 km rollerski race in Partenen (AUT) this evening.

Rank 2 after jumping went to Jens Luraas Oftebro from Norway, who landed at 101.5 meters (123.5 pts) and went into the course only 4 seconds after Fritz.
Manuel Faisst (97.5 mts, 122.5  pts) placed third, 8 seconds behind the Austrian leader.

Overall Summer Grand Prix leader Franz-Josef Rehrl (102 mts, 120.9 pts) placed 5th and started on rollerskis 14 seconds after his team mate.
In a tight starting field, an incredible total of 27 athletes went into the race already within the first minute, so a tough fight for the podium could be expected.

A big leading group of eight athletes, including strong skier Ilkka Herola, formed quickly and contested most of the race together.
On the final lap, Oftebro picked up the pace that the others couldn’t follow. The Norwegian silver medalist from Beijing pulled away and crossed the finish line first, 5.3 seconds ahead of Ilkka Herola. The Finn beat Martin Fritz (+6.8 sec) in a tight sprint on the home stretch and secured the second rank.

Therefore, Herola is again the Overall Summer Grand Prix leader and took the yellow bib back from Franz-Josef Rehrl (+26.9 sec), who ranked 15th.
49 points are deviding the two opponents before tomorrow’s final competition.
