USSS recognizes excellence
USSS has named Eldora Mountain Ski & Snowboard Club (EMSC) 2022 Development Club of the Year. The honor is presented annually to a club in recognition of its alignment with U.S. Ski & Snowboard athlete development standards.
EMSC was founded in 1975 and now offers programs in junior race, core, and ability. In addition to alpine, it also integrates a ski and snowboard freestyle/freeride program, the EMSC Free Team, offering slopestyle, big air, ski and snowboard cross and big mountain.
One of the critical elements of EMSC’s selection as Development Club of the Year was its work in the U.S Ski & Snowboard club certification program. In the summer of 2020, EMSC earned its bronze certification. It then used feedback from the bronze review to focus on areas that needed improvement and, this past season, achieved silver accreditation.
One of the strengths of EMSC is its very active and engaged board which works with staff leadership to increase its mission’s impact through a carefully-developed roadmap to realize its vision. It has established a strong relationship with the mountain, ensuring well-maintained and accessible competition and training venues. In addition, it has fostered a strong relationship with parents.
All programs from Youth Ski League to FIS align closely with U.S. Ski & Snowboard training systems. Additionally, EMSC is known for its collaboration with other clubs.
Club Executive Director credits his community
Certainly, USSS naming Eldora Mountain Ski and Snowboard Club as Development Club of the Year is exciting. Furthermore, we truly appreciate the recognition and feel it directly reflects the fantastic work of the staff and our board of directors.
Everyone has come together to identify and support our key goals, objectives and educational initiatives. Indeed, there has been total support throughout the organization. Additionally, instrumental leadership from U.S. Ski and Snowboard provided valuable information and feedback to support the vision, mission, and values.
Key to our ongoing development has been the valuable contributions of our dedicated mentors. Richard Rokos, who assists with coach/athlete mentorship, and Ron Lemaster, who, before his passing, frequently visited our training sessions to discuss progressions related to junior development.
Finally, EMSC could not accomplish the fantastic goals of our organization without an outstanding partnership with Eldora Mountain. Everyone at Eldora has provided invaluable support for our training, education and events. We depend on the significant cooperation of the Ski Patrol, upper-level management, lift operations, snowcat drivers, custodial staff and parking lot attendants. Hence the EMSC/Eldora partnership fosters an inclusive and supportive culture that supports snow sports athletes at every level.
We look forward to building off the momentum by focusing our lens on an exciting future filled with fun, competitions and life skills.
