The International Ski Federation (FIS) has announced that Crans Montana will host the 2027 Alpine World Ski Championships.
The FIS also elected Montafon in Austria to host the FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships 2027.
The FIS Council made its decisions at its first in person meeting for more than two years, staged in Milan, Italy.
It will be the second time that the Swiss resort has hosted the Alpine Ski World Championships and 2027 will mark the 40-year anniversary from their first outing.
It marks the second time that Austria has hosted the joint World Championships, which features more than 30 medal events.
“We had four excellent bids to host the 2027 Alpine World Championships and it certainly was not an easy decision. Crans Montana brought a passion to its bid that you could feel. Bringing the Alpine World Ski Championships to the heart of Alpine Skiing in 2027 will be an unbelievable opportunity,” said FIS President Johan Eliasch.
The vote for Montafon was unanimous but there were three other resorts vying to host the Alpine Championships. In the end the voting by the FIS Council was Crans Montana – 11 votes, Narvik (Norway) – 3 votes, Soldeu (Andorra) – 3 votes and Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Gemany) – 1 vote.
The World championships take place every two years,. The next staging will be Courchevel Méribel in France next winter followed by Saalbach in Austria in 2025.
