Austria Names 50 Athletes to their World Cup Team

The population of Austria is under nine million people, but this small nation looms large in the world of alpine ski racing. Their Nations Cup victory in 2021/22 had 44 athletes contributing to their total. The women had six athletes finish top 30 in the FIS Alpine World Cup overall, and the Men topped them with eight. Together, the men and women of Austria scored 10,677 FIS World Cup points. During this past season, the team achieved 48 FIS Alpine World Cup podiums, nine of which were the top step. In Beijing, Austrian team members brought home seven Olympic medals won by eight different athletes. The four golds, three silvers, and one Bronze were the envy of the alpine world. It is not surprising that among those medals was a gold in the parallel team event.
In addition, six team members earned WC start spots on the Europa Cup for the upcoming 2022/23 season.
Although there have been many staff changes, this year’s staff will guide a team prepared to dominate the FIS Alpine World Cup and stand on the podium steps at the 2023 FIS Alpine World Championships in France.
