The legendary Italian Manfred Moelgg retired at the Flauchau FIS World Cup night SL in March. After Moelgg’s first run, his colleagues and the sell-out crowd greeted him with a standing ovation and a champagne shower. For a significant period of time, all proceedings stopped as all those attending honored Moelgg.

The 39-year-old veteran of 19 World Cup campaigns retired with a 2008 World Cup SL title, 3 FIS World Championship podiums, and 20 FIS World Cup podiums, including three SL victories.

Italy will miss Moelgg, but they have named 20 fast men to the 2022/23 World Cup Team.

This season five of the named athletes finished ranked inside the top 15 in their events. Dominik Paris delivered three FIS World Cup DH podiums, including two victories. Returning without a medal from the Beijing Olympics, the men’s team will be hungry for redemption at France’s 2023 FIS World Championships.

Always exciting, the Italians will be a team to watch in this coming season.

It is also worth noting how many athletes are either a part of a police team or the army.
