Marcel Hirscher’s ski brand, Van Deer, has announced that Charlie Raposo is their first official signed athlete. Raposo is excited about the opportunity, saying “I’m super proud and it’s an honor to be the first athlete to be announced on Van Deer, to be under the Hirschers’ wings, and to continue to drive my career forward.”
Charlie Raposo is one of six British athletes to score points on the alpine World Cup this season including back-to-back top 30 GSs in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. Raposo finished 27th on March 12th, then backed up that performance the next day with a 16th to score 19 GS points for the season. In addition, Raposo scored 14 points earlier in the season at the Lech Zurs Parallel.
In Slovenia, Raposo became the first British male to score World Cup GS points since Jeremy Palmer-Tomkinson scored 2 points, finishing ninth in Meribel France in 1968. “It’s pretty sweet to score the first GS points for Britain in 54 years and hopefully many more to come,” Raposo said.
What are Hirscher’s goals with Van Deer and how do they align with Raposo’s? Raposo said, “Marcel is fully committed to his racers winning World Cups on Van Deer and I felt that it was a great opportunity to try something different and pioneer something that was new.”
