Jarl Magnus Riiber is the winner of the Schwarzwaldpokal 2022 in Schonach (GER).
With a strong jump on 105 meters, the Norwegian already took the victory of the Men’s Ski Jumping round in the morning.
The Overall World Cup second proofed one more time why he’s the current owner of the blue bib as Best Jumper with reaching the furthest distance of the day.
Therefore, he was the first one to start into the 10 km cross-country race in the afternoon.
The second rank after jumping went to Japanese Ryota Yamamoto with 103.5 meters and 135.8 points. He had a backlog of 31 second to Riiber, just like his teammate Yoshito Watabe who reached 98.5 meters (135.7 pts).
Five athletes started into the 10 km race within the first minute, while Olympic champions Vinzenz Geiger (+1:29 min) Joergen Graabak (+1:42 min) were further behind, but could still be expected to reach the podium due to their strong skiing abilities.
Riiber ran a lonely race at the top and increased his lead to 1 min after 3.5 km.
Johannes Lamparter showed a strong performance and skied from rank 6 to the second place already after 3.5 km. Franz-Josef Rehrl, Kristjan Ilves and Yoshito Watabe weren’t able to keep up with the high speed of the Austrian, who reduced the gap to Riiber to 57.7 sec after 6 km.
Since the pursuers were not able to catch up to the leader, the fight for the podium spots was on.
Lamparter managed to pull away after 8 km, while Vinzenz Geiger took the 3rd rank after 8 km, skiing up from the 11th position after jumping, followed by Joergen Graabak from Norway.
Riiber reached the finish line 38.1 sec ahead of Johannes Lamparter, who lost his overall World Cup lead to the Norwegian by only 1 point. In a tight finish sprint Graabak (+44.2 sec) beat Vinzenz Geiger (+44.4 sec) and completed the podium.
Therefore, Riiber will go into the last competition of the season in the yellow bib tomorrow.
