This season, the men’s giant slalom circuit was completely dominated by Marco Odermatt (SUI). Placing on all of the giant slalom podiums this season, including five wins, he secured enough points in Kranjska Gora (SLO) to claim the small globe. Odermatt additionally claimed the Olympic giant slalom gold medal.
Odermatt finished the first run at the front of the pack by 0.20 seconds, and did not take his foot off the gas in his second run, crossing the finish line with another victory, 0.49 seconds lead of Lucan Braathen (NOR).
Braathen (NOR) was in a good position to fight for the victory, but Odermatt was simply too strong. Never the less it was the Norwegians second giant slalom podium of the season.
Claiming his first giant slalom podium of the season, was Loic Meillard (SUI). Sitting in fourth place after the first run, just 0.10 seconds behind Justin Murisier (SUI), Meillard fought back to claim third place.
A positive surprise of the day was Alexander Olsen Steen (NOR), the 2022 Junior World Ski giant slalom Champion, who ended in the top-ten, enough to earn World Cup points.
Tomorrow will see the last men’s race of the Auid FIS World Cup season. The men’s slalom is scheduled to start at 10:30 CET with the second run starting at 13:30 CET.
