Women’s debut in the Grandvalira European Cup Finals.
The giant slalom event of the piste Avet was the first in the women’s category to be held on the Andorran slopes after the cancellation of the downhill and super-G events due to the adverse weather conditions. The Swiss Simone Wild was the winner of the race and also won the giant slalom overall in the European Cup (EC). After an amazing first run leading with more than a second in advance of the rest, the experienced Wild, managed the pressure on her shoulders and skied a strong clean win in 1:52.21. Switzerland swept today’s podium thanks to a stunning team performance with Jasmina Suter in second + 0.30sec and Vivianne Härri in third place with +0.73sec.
On top of her podium today, Härri managed to take the 2nd place in the giant slalom EC overall behind this season’s and today’s EC giant slalom queen, while the Austrian Nina Astner claimed the 3rd position in the EC giant slalom ranking. Astner overtook her teammate Elisa Mörzinger in the very last race of the season by one single point.
