Veysonnaz takes over FIS Cross Junior World Championships
After the FIS Cross World Cup finals of the upcoming weekend, another major event will come to the Wallis region: Veysonnaz will takeover the FIS Ski and Snowboard Cross Junior World Championships.
The FIS Ski and Snowboard Cross Junior World Championships, which was originally planned to take place in Chiesa in Valmalenco, had to be cancelled due to lack of snow. After some negotiations with all stakeholders involved, Swiss-Ski thankfully declared that Veysonnaz would be able to take over as host of the major event. Only two weeks after the Audi FIS Ski and FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup finals of the upcoming weekend, the resort located above Sion will have the next cross events in place from March 29 until April 1, 2022.
“Veysonnaz has a really strong and experienced event team, which they have proven by hosting the World Cup finals, as well as jumping in for other World Cup events on short notice a couple of times already,” Sacha Giger, Director Freestyle at Swiss-Ski, comments and states that he is looking forward to the FIS Junior World Champs in Switzerland.
“We are very thankful to the organizing committee of Veysonnaz and Swiss-Ski for jumping in as the Junior World Championship host on such a short notice. It is really important that we have this major event for the next generation of Cross athletes, so we really could not be happier for this opportunity,” Klaus Waldner, FIS Cross Race Director comments.
