The Olympic Winter Games 2022 in Beijing (CHN) are barely over when the next World Cup is already on the agenda for the Nordic Combined athletes.
From February 25th to 27th, the Viessmann FIS Nordic Combined World Cup will guest in Lahti, Finland, to hold an Individual Gundersen and a Team Sprint event.
The packed program of this year’s Lahti Ski Games will be complemented by competitions for men’s Ski Jumping and Cross-Country, so all fans can look forward to an exciting Nordic weekend in Finland.
After their successful performances at the Olympic Winter Games in China, the Norwegians are considered the top favorites for the podium.
Joergen Graabak was able to win a medal at every competition in Zhangjiakou and will do everything to achieve a good placement in Lahti as well.
With Jarl Magnus Riiber, who was in quarantine for a long time after a Covid infection and as a result remained without a medal at the Games, one of the best Nordic Combined athletes of all time returns to the World Cup stage.
Meanwhile, overall World Cup leader Johannes Lamparter, who missed out on medals in Beijing, will do his best to defend the yellow bib. Normal hill bronze medalist Lukas Greiderer could team up with Lamparter for Saturday’s sprint, to bring Austria a top finish.
From a German perspective, all eyes will be on NH Olympic champion Vinzenz Geiger, who still has every shot at the overall World Cup victory 2021/22.
With Estonian Kristjan Ilves und local hero Ilkka Herola, two other candidates are vying for the podium places, so exciting competitions can be expected on Lahtis Salpausselkä HS 130 and in the World Championship stadium from 2017.
