Nadyrshina and Loginov lead Russia to historic win in Berchtesgaden

On Sunday Nadyrshina and Loginov raced against the likes of Canada’s Kylie Buck and Darren Gardner, their Russian teammates Daina Klink and Iaroslav Stepanko, the home crowd favourites Selina Joerg and Stefan Baumeister, and finally the Swiss duo of yesterday’s winner Julie Zogg and Dario Caviezel.

And the big final delivered exactly what everyone was hoping for – pure action from start to finish. Dropping in first, both Caviezel and Loginov came with strong efforts going head-to-head for the entire length of the course and crossing the finish line with the exact same times.

That left all in hands of Nadyrshina and Zogg, the number one and two in PSL World Cup standings, dropping in for the final match-up of 2020/21 World Cup season. And while Zogg was hoping to carry momentum from her previous day’s win, it was Nadyrshina who came with a little redemption after the 17-year-old failed to challenge Zogg for the title on Saturday.

The Russian rider gained an early advantage that she would confidently maintain, crossing the finish line .36 sec ahead of her Swiss counterpart for a huge win that capped off a strong World Cup campaign for the Russian Snowboard Team on a high.

With Nadyrshina and Loginov on top, Zogg and Caviezal had to settle for second place on the day, while the local fans’ favourites Selina Joerg and Stefan Baumeister rounded out the podium in third place, after edging out the Austrian veteran duo of Claudia Riegler and Andreas Prommegger in the small final.

Unfortunately, with only two PSL team events completed in 2021/22, there was no globe awarded in that category this season. For the first time in history, however, Russia topped the snowboard alpine Nations Cup standing leading the way with 2862 points and besting second in the ranking Austria by more than 300 points.
