After 10 races in the last eight days, the ladies will call it a series after their final NorAm slalom race at Whiteface Mountain. It was a close race for the top spot with Canadian Arianne Forget taking the win.
Forget started bib 16 in the first run and moved into first along with U.S. Ski Team member Allie Resnick, who tied for the fastest time and was just 0.06 seconds ahead of teammate Ava Sunshine Jemison. The top seven positions were within half a second of each other, including recent Olympian Katie Hensien in fifth.
The second run shook up the field and those who had gas left in the tank were able to move ahead. Forget overtook Resnick for her career-first NorAm win with a total time of 1:46:97.
“I am really happy with my skiing and result today,” said Forget. “I think we were all tired after a long week of NorAm series, but I still managed to put all the puzzle pieces together and finish with 2 solid runs. Winning a NorAm is the best way to end the week.”
After five consecutive second-place GS finishes, Resnick stepped on the podium in slalom. Like Forget, Resnick was running on steam and held it together for a silver.
“Today was another great day of racing,” said Resnick. “The race was super tight after first run, which always makes for an exciting second run. I am super happy to end up in second again today. I gave it everything I had left in my legs, and it’s safe to say I can’t wait to sleep in tomorrow.”
Canadian Sarah Bennett moved into third after sitting 0.43 seconds behind Forget in her first run. Bennett had a solid second run time to overcome Jemison who fell into fifth. Hensien did not finish her second run.
With more than a month break, Resnick and Forget will have the chance to rest their legs and join the men for NorAm finals at Sugarloaf on March 20.
