SR Staff Report
Swiss speed skier Urs Kryenbühl is receiving surgery today for a pelvic injury after a serious crash in the Europa Cup super G in Saalbach-Hinterglemm on Thursday.
Fortunately, no internal organs were injured in the crash, according to a Swiss press release, but Kryenbühl does need an operation to repair a tear (or rupture) of his pubic symphysis. The surgery is being performed at the Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich.
This type of injury has been seen before in speed skiers. Dominik Schwaiger, who suffered a similar injury in 2017 after a crashing in the Borimo downhill, has since been a regular on the World Cup speed circuit.
Kryenbühl’s 2021 season was also cut short due to injury in the Hahnenkamm downhill, where he broke his collarbone and tore two ligaments in his right knee. Kryenbühl had just celebrated his first return to Kitzbühel since the crash in January 2021.
