First ever Cross-Country City Sprint in Shanghai

On December 18th and 19th, Shanghai hosted the first ever FIS Cross-Country City Sprint. The event was held along Yangtze River, and the Cross-Country skiing track was set up along 250m long river bank in Yangpu. A total of 23 male and 13 female athletes from both China and Russia competed for 2 days in both Sprint and Team Sprint.

The Sprint weekend was the first snow sport event organized in Shanghai and was live broadcasted on Chinese Olympic Channel (CCTV-16) and onine streams with estimated total 80+million viewers during 2 days’ event. The event was planned to take place in March 2020, but it was postponed due to pandemic outbreak. Finally it took place 21 months later.
