Over the weekend, the high elevations of the Rocky Mountains of the Rockies saw a hefty amount of snowfall and cold temps that allowed for the first real snowmaking push of the season. Colorado ski resorts such as Copper Mountain, Keystone, Loveland, and Arapahoe Basin are now running their snowguns full bore and if temperatures cooperate, ski season could come as early as this weekend.

It also doesn’t hurt that another powerful front is currently set to impact the Rockies mid-week with snow levels dropping to 6,000 feet. In fact, Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are currently in effect in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Colorado.
But back to the snow from this weekend. In some parts of the Northern Rockies, it was quite the October doozy. Jackson Hole, Sun Valley, and Big Sky all saw plentiful snow on their peaks. In Colorado, things tended towards the lighter side but reports from Steamboat locals indicate that there were some deep spots on the high peaks. The dark horse was definitely Mammoth Mountain, which pulled down some impressive totals on Friday with the photos to prove it.
